The final pandas I saw at the Shuangnan Gardens area of the Dujiangyan Base I actually didn’t know who they were at first because here you can’t access their sign at the front of the yard, you can only view at the side. Luckily I met a Singaporean fan (and friend of the fans I met in Singapore) at Le Le and she let me know the names of all the pandas I was missing – this mama and her cubs are Pan Wang 潘旺 and 2023-born twins, Chun Ye 春野 and Qiu Ye 秋野, who are (possibly) a female and male pair.
I didn’t see Pan Wang and her twins last year so they must have been living off show somewhere, but I’m sure glad I saw them this time – what a cute family, and so photogenic. When I first got to their yard they were all quietly hanging out around their water fountain, but soon enough the twins got up and were up to mischief! One of the babies wanted to climb on the platform but Pan Wang wasn’t happy about it and tried to pull them down – when that failed all 3 of them were on the platform and Pan Wang wrestled the baby off the side! The baby was quite unphased and strolled off for more exploring, leaving sibling to have a super cute cuddle moment with mum – such a photogenic pair. When I came back in the afternoon I found one baby super high up in the tallest tree, and mum and sibling were settling down for a nap. The trio only really got up again at the end of the day when I popped in to see them before leaving, the babies were having a very sweet moment together and I got some lovely photos of them.
