Now onto the last section of houses, first up it’s the Inner Ring House 1 – here there are 4 different yards to see. Three of these are quite sloped, and the viewing is at the top of the slope so you’re mostly looking down into the pandas, but there are definitely some blind spots, so even though I didn’t see a couple of the pandas, they could well have just been sat in the perfect hidden-from-view spot! Here there are 2 individual pandas, and 2 pairs of pandas living, so a good balance for viewing. Sadly the one panda I didn’t see at all and would have loved to have seen was Bao Bao, she was living in this house when I visited, but didn’t see her out at all – oh well, or the more reason for more trips to try and see her again and at least I was lucky enough to see her way back in 2017 (she was Tai Shan‘s neighbour at the Dujiangyan Base!). But I still had some great viewing in this house and there were fabulous scenic views from around the viewing platforms here!
Mei Mei 美美
The first panda I saw here was Mei Mei 美美 – albeit I didn’t see a huge amount of her as she generally stuck close to the building (in a more shaded spot, quite right!). She was born in 2018 so is 6 years old, and online I found that she was born to Cao Cao 草草 who is a wild-rescued panda, she is also a twin – so she adds important new genetic diversity to the captive population. Cao Cao also lives here, but I didn’t see her this time – she is also the mother of Xing Ye and Mu Ye that I saw at Dujiangyan this trip, so these are Mei Mei‘s younger siblings! There are some super cute pictures of her as a youngster online so definitely worth checking those out^
Sheng Lan 胜兰 + Bai Ji 白吉
Next up are a pair of young pandas – Sheng Lan 胜兰 and Bai Ji 白吉. These two aren’t twins but were born close to each other in 2021, making them 3 years old. I can’t find any information at all about these two online which is a shame, but there are some pictures from this years birthday celebration at the base, which are cute. I really liked this yard, there were a lot of very leafy plants growing in it which makes for something a bit different to all the others, so I was happy to get some cute shots of one of the pandas creeping through all the greenery. I didn’t see a lot of these two, aside from the plants the yard was very sloped and you view it from the top, so I couldn’t see around half of it, but they were playing together very sweetly.
You You 优悠 + Jiao Yang 骄阳
Last up in this yard, another young 2021-born pair – You You 优悠 and Jiao Yang 骄阳. These two were very cute, but didn’t really interact together when I was there, it was snack time and it was all about the bamboo! Luckily they seemed happy with their separate piles because there was no fighting for one piece! Again, not a lot of information about these two online, but Jiao Yang was born here at Wolong Shenshuping and his mother Yang Hua (who we already saw!) still lives here.
