Next up in the giant panda houses at Panda Valley is No1 Giant Panda House. Here I saw signs for 3 giant pandas living here, and you could see them in outdoor yards, but there was also an indoor space for viewing as well. On my visit I saw 2 pandas outside and 1 inside, who I assume is the one I have an outdoor sign for but not outdoor pictures for – it seems like they all share indoor enclosure access in this house. In this post, two of the giant panda residents of the No1 Giant Panda House:
Ai Mi
Ai Mi 艾米 is the giant panda that I think I saw inside – in the indoor viewing there were no signs identifying the panda, so I assume the three of them share this space on alternating days. Ai Mi is a 6 year old male who has a twin brother and born to Ai Li 艾莉. His sign says he is calm and sleepy and enjoys eating – and he sure was enjoying his bamboo when I saw him. He knew it was time for a bamboo update and could hear the keeper in the back because he kept his eye on the door and as soon as the keeper removed the screen on the other side of the bars, he headed straight over. And soon some bamboo shoots were pushed through the bars to him! Other bamboo was already on offer, but the shoots are the best of course!
Zhi Shi
The second male panda in the No1 Giant Panda House was Zhi Shi 芝士 who is a 7 year old male born to mum Zhi Zhi 芝芝. I saw him outside on both of my visits. The first day he was wandering around the whole space and was climbing up on the rocks of his water feature – this was in a bit of a sunny spot, but overall the enclosure was quite well shaded with a lot of trees for coverage. On my second visit he was enjoying a pile of bamboo right near the front of the yard which was super cute to see. His information sign says he can be quite naughty and is a picky eater, making sure to compare all the pieces of bamboo before picking what he has determined as the best!
