Next up in the Panda Reception Hall area is the second of 4 pavilions, the Reflecting Sun Pavilion, which has the same set up as the Spring Sun Pavilion with two indoor viewing spaces and then outdoor yards. Here I also didn’t see every panda that was living in this pavilion, but I did see 5 different ones – currently there are 6 listed as living here on the app. On the first day I saw 3 pandas, one solo and one female pair although I didn’t get any good photos of the pair (Run Yue 润玥 and Ai Jiu 艾玖, born in 2020). On the second day I saw two different solo pandas, again one I didn’t get very good pictures from (Cheng Shi 成实, born in 2016 and actually was one of the first cubs I ever saw!). So I saw almost everyone here!

Ni Ke 妮可

Ni Ke 妮可 was the panda I saw on my first day – he was very happy sleeping up on his platform all the times I went past his house, so most people were just walking past him. What interested me most was the note that says he has white fur on some of his paws, and was born in 2017. This reminded me that I saw some pandas with white paws one of the first years I went to the base, so in this post here, I have pictures of Ni Ke as a 4 month old – so special!

Le Shan 乐山

Le Shan 乐山 , also known as Yuan Da 缘大, was one of the pandas that I saw on the second day of my visit. He is an 18 year old male and is noted as being tall and strong. Despite this he’s docile and very much a foodie – I would agree, he was eating for ages when I saw him (which was a couple of times over the day)! He was planted right at the front window enjoying his bamboo and very happy to sit in front of a crowd, he was very popular. I would say he also has quite a distinctive face too. He was born and raised here at the base, but spent some time on loan to Wuxi Zoo (a city in Jiangsu Province), before returning to Chengdu Base while the zoo made some renovations. There are some very cute pictures of him online, and I would say for an adult male, he is a very cute panda and I hope to see him again on my next visit.
