The second of the 7 houses in Panda Creek Valley is the River Moon Pavilion – here there are 2 indoor and 6 outdoor yards, and currently there are 9 pandas living in this house. This house is quite identical to the previous Embracing Moon Pavilion. Four of these are 3 years old, so are still living together as young pandas, while the other 5 will be living as solo adults. On my visit across the two days I saw the 4 youngsters living together (first day only), and then two separate adult pandas, one of whom I saw on both days:

Jin Xiao, Fu Duo Duo, Ya Song + Lun Hui

I definitely got to these 4 at the wrong time when I visited – it was nap time! Here there was only a sign for Jin Xiao 金宵 (previously listed as Gong Xi) and Fu Duo Duo 福多多 (previously listed as Pu Pu), but there are clearly 4 pandas, the others are Ya Song 雅颂 and Lun Hui 轮辉 (previously listed as Wu Wu) – which I know because I saw this exact quartet on my September 2023 visit when they lived in the kindergarten in the original part of the park! One of them did wake up for a small scratch before settling down in a different position, so I’ll have to wait until next time to see these sweet pandas up and about again – they were super playful when I last saw them and loved watching them interact with each other.
Jin Xiao‘s older brother is Jin Bao who featured in the last post, he lives in the Embracing Moon Pavilion. Fu Duo Duo was originally living with her mother, but sadly her mother passed away 7 months after her birth, so she was raised by surrogate mother Ya Li along with her own daughter Ya Song – Fu Duo Duo and Ya Song have thus been living together for a long time!

Fu Lai

The first solo panda I saw was Fu Lai 福来, and I saw her on both days of my trip – I’m glad she was out both days because the first day she was sleeping, but on the second day she was sitting eating right at the front^ She was born in 2016, and given she was an earlier birth that season, I likely saw her outside that year, but this now makes her almost 8 years old in these photos. She also has a twin brother, Fu Shun, who I saw in the Cloud Sun Pavilion too, and actually Fu Duo Duo is also her younger sibling (they have the same mother). When Fu Lai was young, she had to undergo an operation for intestinal blockage, luckily it was successful and clearly she has thrived since then. There are several videos of her as a cub online, she’s super cute^

Bao Ge

The final panda I saw in this house was Bao Ge 宝哥, an almost 5-year old male. He has a twin sister, Bao Mei who I shared about already, and so is also the son of Po, aka A Bao 阿宝 or Bao Lan 宝兰 who was born in Zoo Atlanta. The twins also lived with Jin Bao (living in Embracing Moon Pavilion) while they were youngsters, so it’s nice to have seen all three of them. There isn’t much information about him online but there are some nice pictures of him available. I only saw him on my second visit, but he was pretty active, splitting his time between eating and walking around and climbing in his enclosure.
