What I ate at Shanghai Disneyland in May 2024 – ranked!

I briefly chatted what themed snacks I ate from the new Zootopia land at Shanghai Disneyland, now I’m ranking everything I ate during my 1.75 days of visiting! I also mentioned what I ate on my first and second trips and I don’t *think* I repeated anything apart from one item. Compared with how much I ate on those previous trips, I think I might have over-eaten on this trip because I really wanted to get loads in, oops! But so far, I’ve not really found any ‘bad’ food items at Shanghai Disneyland!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Stargazer Grill Veggie Burger + Cookie Ann’s Bakery Mickey Cinnamon Swirl

So I ate at the Stargazer Grill for both dinners on this trip, and for dinner on my last trip – I love the veggie burger a lot, completely a 5 star food! The first one I had this time, they really went all out with the fried onions, there were almost too many for me to hold the bun shut (second time, it was a much more manageable amount). I’m not sure what exactly is in the burger patty, definitely cheese and sweetcorn, and I think potato – whatever it is, it’s delicious, one of the best veggie burgers I’ve tried. It also comes with a portobello mushroom (with an avenger stamped on the top), pickle and tomato in the burger. And of course fries are included too, they’ve always been good when I’ve eaten here, and also a drink with the combo – in total 99RMB.

The cinnamon swirl (in classic Mickey shape!) is another food that gets 5 stars – I got this from Cookie Ann’s Bakery, I’m not sure where else it might be available. This wasn’t in the self-serve windows (with things like muffins, donuts and pastries), but from the order window where you could get savoury pastries and warm items, along with hot drinks. The cinnamon swirl was heated up and so soft and flavourful, delicious! We make cinnamon swirls every year at Christmas at home, and this one was right up there with our homemade ones. It was pretty big, definitely could share between two, or easy to share if you wanted to try a couple of items.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Zootopia Pawpsicle

Next down on the rankings – the Zootopia pawpsicle at 4 out of 5 stars (p.s. you can get it at a few locations around the park, not only in Zootopia land). This is a great refreshing ice lolly option that isn’t an ice cream and I appreciate having that option. Apparently this is hawthorn berry flavour, I didn’t really taste any particular flavour other than fruity – for me not really a complaint, I’d still have this again as it’s perfect on a hot day. Bonus point – this didn’t melt too fast which was also great as you can really enjoy it before it starts to drip too quickly!

⭐⭐⭐(.5)

Stargazer Grill Churros

Next on the list are the churros from Stargazer Grill – these were really delicious. They were freshly made and very light. They had a cinnamon sugar coating and came with a caramel sauce inside the chocolate ice cream cone. Very tasty, and actually my first time trying churros. My only complaint with these are that the portion size is too much for one person, this is definitely a sharing snack! I managed my way through 4 of the 6 before conceding, and that was after a veggie burger and fries, so I was pretty full that evening haha! Would definitely have churros again after trying these ones, and they also seemed good value for money being 48RMB for the 6.

⭐⭐⭐

Duffy Coffee Panne Cotta + Shellie May Strawberry Panne Cotta + Zooptopia Mini ‘The Big Donut’

I have given quite a few items a 3 out of 5 star rating. Essentially the panne cotta’s are the same thing – and I ate the Stella Lou one last year too – but are supposed to have different flavours, coffee for Duffy and strawberry for Shellie May (Stella Lou was blueberry). I found these desserts didn’t really taste of anything at all but I got them for the adorable design rather than expecting a great flavour. These cost 45RMB each and if you’re here for the Duffy and friends, these are a ‘don’t miss’ item, just maybe don’t have super high expectations from them. I got Duffy at Tribal Table then Shellie May at Pinocchio Village Kitchen, but I think they have them in a few different locations around the park.

Then there are also the mini ‘The Big Donut’ set from Zootopia, these were nice donuts but nothing hugely special. The size was really nice and I liked that they came in a box so I could save some for later. They weren’t hugely sweet donuts, but were soft and completely covered in chocolate with a cute lettered design on top. The chocolate really held up in the heat and the letters stuck on well – I carried the box around with two in it for at least 3 or 4 hours before dropping them back off at the hotel and ate them the next day and they still looked as good as new. These are also great for sharing and cost 58RMB. For a donut/sweet baked good I would head to Cookie Ann’s Bakery for something from there instead of these.

⭐⭐(.5)

Tribal Table Tacos + Cookie Ann’s Bakery Chocolate Mickey Muffin + Pinocchio Village Kitchen Piglet Macaroni Cheese

And my lowest ranked items get 2.5 out of 5 stars each – starting and ending on a main meal. Now, I will preface this by saying I didn’t really eat any of the Chinese themed items, everything was more Western-diet orientated, so maybe the Chinese foods are better (also prefacing, this is the first time I’ve had tacos so I have nothing to compare these too!). Starting with the trio of tacos from Tribal Table (which is all Duffy and friends themed, the menu really is super cute) – the portion is 3 and you can choose from pulled pork, fish and veggie, and they come with some tortilla chips on the side too. I opted for two veggie and one fish, I would describe myself as flexitarian, but I’m not really a fan of pulled pork so I skipped that one. Each of the flavours have a different character embossed on the taco which is adorable. I was surprised that I ended up preferring the fish over the veggie ones, even though there was a spicy sauce in it, it was super tasty. The veggie ones had a little too much coriander for me. The portion size was just a bit large, I had these for lunch and could either have done with them being smaller or maybe having the option to only have two as I couldn’t finish the third one – these are a decent price for the amount of food though, 99RMB and could definitely be shared. This restaurant also has a vegetable noodle dish that I would try next time.

I didn’t get a picture of my chocolate muffin mostly because I picked away at it during the day – a great snack whilst waiting in the line to get into Zootopia land! This was a pretty standard Disney muffin, it was yummy and had nice chocolate chips in it, but was nothing stand out – especially compared to the cinnamon swirl that I bought at the same time.

And for my second day’s lunch I went to the Pinocchio Village Kitchen – I had lunch here on my last trip and got the adorable Pooh-shaped pizza, this time I tried the Macaroni Cheese with bacon and mushroom. I’m a big macaroni cheese fan, but honestly I don’t want other stuff added to it, it’s all about the cheese! So not so much of a fan of all the bacon and mushrooms (bit too much of each), and it wasn’t as cheesy as I’d hoped, but I should have guessed this as I can count on one time how often I’ve eaten cheese on my many trips! Still I’m glad I tried this out, it was 99RMB including a drink as well, so reasonably priced, but again the portion was quite large. Interestingly the menu for here has a cheese and tomato vegetarian pizza listed, and I walked around all the serving counters and didn’t see it at all, so I think I’d be interested in finding out if I could get this next time.
